| Course overview : - 10 lessons - 60 conga exercises, video presentations, conga notation and audio loop - Live stream video - fast download Each video example is shown in 3 video formats : 1) video loop ( each conga exercise played in a non-stop video loop ) 2 ) 3 to 5 min. video presentation, live playing, played step by step and at different speed 3) video livestream - fast download Conga technique - ex. manoteo, slap, open tones : We will start this course with a technique lesson for the congas. The technique exercises presented in the first 2 lessons develop the use of the following tones : - O = Open tone - H = Bass tone - T = Tip of the fingers - S = Slap Contents - lesson 1: Ex. 1) Manoteo exercises with both hands Ex. 2) 3 manoteo exercises on 2 drums Ex. 3) Triplets - tones O/S Ex. 4) Triplets - tones O/S on 2 drums Conga technique 2 - ( O/S/H ) : Lesson 2 continues with technique exercises on both congas, and both hands. We will play triplets using combinations of the tones O/S/B & H/T/S. Contents - lesson 2 : Ex. 1: Triplets - O/S/B ( 2 hands, 2 drums ) Ex. 2: Triplets - H/T/S ( 2 hands, 2 drums ) Rumba clave, left foot independence : In this lesson we will use a foot pedal to play the clave ( on bell ) with the left foot. The left foot plays rumba clave, while playing various exercises with the hands on the congas. Contens - lesson 3 : Ex. 1) rumba clave - 3 independence exercises, the left foot playing rumba clave and hands playing congas. Guaguanco, salidor pattern 1 & 2 : In this lesson we will study the first part of the guaguanco rhythm. The guaguanco is a traditional afrocuban rhythm that is played on 3 drums ( quinto, conga and tumba ). We will see how to play this rhythm step by step ( on 1 conga, lesson 4 and 5 ) and 2 congas ( lesson 6 ). In lesson 4 we will analyze the first part ( or entrance on the salidor ), this is how the guaguanco starts ( the rhythm starts with the salidor pattern played on the tumba, large conga drum ). Contents - lesson 4 : Ej. 1) Salidor pattern 1 Ej. 2) Salidor pattern 1 + rumba clave with left foot Ej. 3) Salidor pattern 2 ( playing salidor pattern 1 and changing to salidor pattern 2 ) Ej. 4) Salidor pattern 2 + rumba clave Guaguanco, tres golpes pattern : In this lesson we will play the tres golpes pattern. This pattern is the second pattern to enter the guaguanco rhythm ( enters afther the salidor pattern 2 ). Contents - lesson 5 : Ex. 1 ) Tres golpes pattern ( advanced ) Ex. 2 ) Tres golpes pattern ( intermediate ) Ex. 3 ) Tres golpes pattern + rumba clave Guaguanco, on 2 drums : In this lesson we will study the guaguanco rhythm played on 2 conga drums ( quinto or small drum ) and conga ( mid drum ). We will play variations of the guaguanco on 2 drums using different tone combinations with left and right hand ( also see lesson 7 ). Contents - lesson 6 : Ex. 1) The basic guaguanco on 2 drums ( basic approach ) Ex. 2) The basic guaguanco on 2 drums, adding the left foot rumba clave Guaguanco, variations : In this lesson we will see the use the 2 congas. We will play the tumbao on 2 congas ( quinto and conga ). Contents - lesson 7 : Ex. 1) 7 variations for playing guaguanco on 2 conga drums Guaguanco, 3 sections : In this lesson we practice 2 exercises that are totally different. In ex. 1 we show the guaguanco in 3 sections, starting with the intro salidor and moving to the pattern on 2 congas, incl. the rumba clave . In ex. 2 the guaguanco is played by 2 persons, a two part rhythm. Contents - lesson 8 : Ex. 1) Guaguanco - 3 sections Ex. 2) Guaguanco for 2 players Rumba columbia rhythm, 6/8 : In this lesson we study the rumba columbia rhythm, on 1 and 2 drums. We will also adapt this rhythm for 2 players. Contents - lesson 9 : Ex. 1 ) Columbia - ptrn.1 ( low drum - conga ) Ex. 2 ) Columbia - ptrn.2 ( hi drum - quinto ) Ex. 3 ) Columbia adapted on 2 drums Ex. 4 ) Columbia for 2 players Bembe rhythm, 6/8 : In this lesson we study the bembe rhythm, on 1 and 2 drums. We also see how to adapt this rhythm for 2 players.
